International Guild of Artisans History:
In 1965 Mrs. Edward Tollefsen of Kearney, Nebraska founded the International Guild of Candle Artisans. "The idea to start a candlecrafters association came to me as I read Ruth Monroe’s CandleGlo Magazine. She seemed so much like myself, an amateur anxious to share her knowledge with others…Ruth was so enthusiastic that she immediately printed my name and address. Then Mr. Wilson of Wick Magazine offered his facilities and services. After the publicity in these two magazines inquiries began coming in faster. We were soon giving birth to our new baby, the candlecrafters’ guild."
With the help of the two magazines, interested parties were invited to an organizational meeting at Kearney, Nebraska. The name IGCA was chosen officers elected. Two days were spent listening to informative talks on all aspects of candle making and a constitution was adopted. A convention was planned.
The IGCA became incorporated as a non-profit corporation in September of 1969.
The benefits to our memberships are:
• The IGCA convention where it covers topics such as candle making, business workshops, members candle competition, and the transaction of the organization business;
• Sharing ideas within the candle artisans community;
• Regional workshops;
